You know as on forumer there are these symbols for these

Actually, with phpBB3 you can.
Go under your Administration Control Panel > Styles > Imagesets. Find your current imageset and go to Edit. Then choose the image to replace under Select Image.

Edit: This was posted under the wrong section. I think Kurisu is right. Sorry, I thought you were using phpBB3.
