Default phpBB2 Styles: What's the deal?

I've seen this question asked a couple of times on here, and I've never seen it answered properly, so I thought I'd give it a shot myself.

I understand that currently we only have a limited number of styles we can use on Forumer. Why can't the owner enable us to upload other phpBB styles to suit our own needs as well as MODS if we desire? Or at least request to have those styles and mods installed for us?

Providing FTP access and allowing you to modify your board's CORE files are HUGE security risks. That's the main reason why.

Being a programmer and a webmaster, I understand those security risks, but they only exist if the security in the host is lacking to begin with.

That still leaves the second part unanswered. If permissions to do it ourselves is denied, why can't some mod or admin on here serve as someone to upload our requested styles?

1.) Do you know how simple it would be for someone to simply dDos our servers if we allowed FTP? Even using Symantec Server Security, it wouldn't stop everything. We've been alive for quite some time here with no dDos attacks, and no other type of server attacks, thanks to us NOT providing FTP access.

2.) C'mon now, is that even practical? Do you know how many requests we would get? It would simply take forever considering we are all volunteers here.

*sighs* Could you at least take suggestions from users here on, say, the top 10 styles that are wanted the most from what's listed on the phpBB site and consider installing those?

Sure, what style would you like? Please include a link.

I can make no guarantees that it will be added, though.

It's called SoftBlue, located here:
http://www.phpbb.com/styles/forum/index.php?style=137

Is there any chance in the future we might have some MODS available to us? I'm really wanting to make my forum more interactive for my members and I like the currency and shop MODS such as what this forum uses.

If Template Editing is available in phpBB3, then MODS should be able to be run. Just like they can be run on our IPB boards.
