i banned a member on my forum ... then today someone with the same IP address signed up to the forum, and i was like "welcome or should i say welcome back" and then they had a big go at me for assuming they was the person who got banned and accused me of deleting all their posts which i have not done (except for one which i classed as inappropiate and deleted). then later on in a different post i checked their IP again and it had changed

im confused about this

isnt IP address linked to the computer your on ?? if so do this mean that the person has signed back up again but has now changed computers they are on

first these days dynamic ip's are used. not everyone has static ip address. yes changing computers is also a soln of being able to acces a forum but if you ban an ip then there is a possibility banning many other people of the same internet provider. so its better to ban username than an ip.

so it is likely that they are not the same person .. ya see im confused with that bit ... i also have on my forum 3 people all using the same IP so i dont know if they are the same person or 3 different people ...

like a computer has the same IP address all the time, an no other computer has that IP address

Hi just thought id bring this back up, hope its ok, can someone explain an answer my question please,

because the people are really weird and i wanna know if its one person just being stupid, or if i really do have 3 different weridos on my forum

it's on the same telephone line...or sometimes computer.

some internet provider can change the ip for u, or they have a dynamic system.
or there are programs out there that can change your IP. but they are sorta illegal...
