I've looked over several threads explaining how to change your banner, but I still don't understand.

In one link it showed in red where to place the url of your banner. What do you mean by the url? Are we able to place a saved banner from our computer into a skin?

Also, are we able to just change the text of the banner that already came with the skin?

I'm not exactly saavy when it comes to all of this, so a really clear breakdown would be much, much appreciated.

The URL means that you will have to upload the banner to an imagehost, and insert the URL there.

You could change the text on the banner that comes standard with the skin using a graphics editor, or you can request edits at the graphic request section.
