What is the difference in IPG, Phpbb2, and Phpbb3, and can you select which server you sign up under, or is it just when you sign up? Do you just get the latest version? I am a little confused.

IPB is an Ivision Power Board. You can alter all of the coding.

Phpbb is recommended because all the coding is done and all you do is make your forums and mange them.

phpBB also has a brighter future and is more secure while IPB is a little old.
IPB is more difficult to administer than phpBB.
So for a new person or beginner, it is recommended that you take phpBB.

Ok First........ please do a search next time this question has been answered millions of times!

The real difference is that IPB is more customizable, it has a HTML access and basically you can do whatever you want with it make it exactly to your liking add many modifications.

phpBB2 is set to a few options and that's it, it's more restrictive, you can't add modifications and you can't customize it much, it's therefore recommended to newbies who don't know much about programing.

Forumer's phpBB3 is not yet fully released, so not all the functions available in the future are activated. Hopefully it will also have HTML access so it will be more flexible and will allow modifications but not at the moment.

All phpBB2 owners will get the choice to upgrade to phpBB3 in the future but at the moment I can not tell you when exactly.

Will IPB users get the chance to upgrade too or are the systems incompatible?

IPB is a different software, you can not change between IPB and phpBB.

There are no plans to upgrade the IPB as the 1.3 was the last free version.
