hey i made a copy of the skin that you start with. and i messed the first one up, now i want to use the copy.
how do i set the board to use my new copy (allocate it) and deallocate the old one

I don't really get what you are asking here.

To install the default skin you have to go to the AdminCP -> Skin &Templates -> Select a Skin -> and click on Import by the Invision Power Board skin(that's the default one)

To edit the style sheets just go to AdminCP -> Skin &Templates -> Style Sheets -> click on Edit and there you can make your changes. (you can delete what you had there and paste your saved one.
