Hey! I own a forum and I want to know, can you find someones password? I wanted to go on their account but it doesn't show they're password in the AdminCP. I wanted to see if something worked.

Hi,

You cannot see the user's password, but you can change it through the Admin CP.

I do not want to change his password because he might not be able to login. Though I wanted to test something.

If you change his password, I believe an email is sent to the user. Though I might be wrong as I think that is only username changes.

Yes, I know. I'm just saying that is the only thing you can do with a member's password.

That only applies to username changes.

You can edit the users profile though, you dont have to change the password to change their account. Just go to admin cp > Users and groups > FInd/edit/suspend user > Enter Member name > Select Member > Edit User > Then do what you need to do

Well, that is really an invasion of privacy if you want to find someones password out.

It's irrelevant I am afraid.

All IPB passwords are hashed using One Way Encryption (explained here) which means that there is absolutely no way to view them in plain text once they have been MD5 encrypted.

Maybe but I disagree with this idea. I use the same password for all my accounts in everything. If you find out mine in a forum, you can accede to my e-mail accounts, my memberships in all other forums and sites, etc. It might be the same for him/her. So yeah, I think you better change his or her password and e-mail it to him/her!
