Ok Here it goes

I got several problems with minor stuff in my IPB forums. I used PHPBB2 previously and was looking forward to update to PHPBB3 when Forum5 decided to burn a whole server.

In the meantime, someone told me that IPB was a better choice, especially the latest V2.1 and on, was especially good.
I looked around and found Forumer as well referred. So I signed up, but honestly forgot to check the version.
Searching this forum I noticed you use V1.3. From Underline, Italic and Bold weird tag problems to some other limitations (lack of image gallery uploading, weird problems with uploading new skins, I just gave up this part, etc) I am not enjoying the major differences between PHPBB2.

Don't get me wrong, I am not criticizing Forumer. But I would really like to request an update to Version 2. I just want to know if it's possible.

I feel this forum is a step down in user friendliness.

Hello,

It is highly unlikely that Forumer will upgrade IPB 1.3 to IPB 2.x.x due to its cost of each software. So each forum has to has one seperate license, which isn't very friendly on the wallet, nor is it practical.

It was until IPB deemed their software paid, that IPB 1.3 was the last free version anyone could use.

Oh! I didn't know that. I'm sorry then.

So is it possible to solve the problems of version 1.3 to make it stable?

I'll list them as I can remember them:

1- No portal, even simple would be great.
2- The text editor is the poorest (I would like this one right here)
3- Lack of Ranks (not just levels, but actual ranks with personalized dips)
4- fInvites never worked no matter how many times I entered the email
5- No Image Upload system nor gallery
6- No forum skin previews

That's pretty much it, but I do like the html edit interface compared with PHPbb2

1 - The portal is an optional feature and be disabled in your IPDynamic Lite settings.
2 - I don't think there is anything we can do about the text editor, what is wrong with it exactly?
3 - Dips? Do you mean pips?
4 - Not sure about that, I need to check it out as I haven't tried fInvites for a while.
5 - You can upload attachments in posts. Also, there is a modification at fMods that will add an image uploader into your post screen section.
6 - Can't do anything about it

2 - For example, I can't highlight text and press the bold option (or underline or italic) it places the tag in the end of the post. Not useful. Also, there's no rich text formatting like center text, or anything like that like you have right here.
3 - Yeah pips. I mean anyone starts with one pip. Even mods and Admins. It would be nice to create special ranks like, special guests with a certain amount of pips or even different ones.

2 - Yeah, I have noticed that myself and it is very annoying. Not sure we can do anything about that one unfortunately.
3 - You can, you just have to edit the options in Users/Titles/Ranks

1 - I activated the Portal, but I can't see it anywhere, isn't it supposed to be the main root page or index?
2 - Well, too bad. Is there a mod to add this text editor right here?
3 - But these are post number sensitive, how can I add a rank not post sensitive?

2 - I have not seen such a thing on Forumer before. You can always request it to be made at fMods, that would probably be your best bet.
3 - I'm sorry, I'm just not 100% clear on what you want there. Try Member Groups?

There has been an advanced text editor on fMods.com

You need to register and make 15 NON spam posts, in order to access the modifications.

Hello again

I've been there and it's not 15 but 70 posts in order to see some specific codes. And it's not even granted the mod I was suggested even works.

The point is that all I need is this simple small mod that enables me to highlight some text and hit the bold (for example) button and get bold text and not the boring ["b"] tag in the end of the post.
Isn't there a way to program the buttons to work like this?

It is working like that on MasterVision's forum, I don't know what he did ....... maybe send him a PM and ask him

It is sometimes dificult to find mods with the search because you need to know the exact word they used in the title or anywhere when they talk about it, maybe post a thread and ask the staff there if they know if there is that mod submitted, I know MasterVision submitted a few of his mods there. (his fMods name is Bangis)

FOr the custom ranks go to Admin Cp > Find/Edit/Suspend Users > Enter Name > Click Edit > Above groups, it will say member title. You can ad something in there like Global mod for instance.

Yes I've seen that.

But the point is that the pip count is the same for everyone.
I wanted the mods not to have pips or have the highest number of pips. How do I do that?

That's the problem. On Member List there's no "mastervision" and I can't send any PM's in that forum since it says "you have no permission"

I am strongly considering quitting Invision's boards and return to PHPBB since it's taking me forever to get mods to simple stuff. It's quite boring to lose an entire board as I did in Forum5 and not find a decent replacement that would make things run smoothly. I keep finding problems all over the board and everyone keeps telling me I should update to version 2,3 and it seems that since it's not free, no one cares to update it...

It's not a critique, it's just to show you how desperate I am with my users complaining the text box is so poor and they can only upload one file per post, and there's no grouping settings etc.

All I needed was some few minor adjustments and I am unfortunate not to understand html so deeply.
