Default Database backup - why not?

(Note: If this comes off as being snobby, please don't take it that way - I appreciate everything you guys do.)

Recently one of my fellow forum members asked if it was possible to obtain a database backup so we could move our forum over to a host that would allow us more flexibility in terms of mods and whatnot. As it stands, there's no way to get FTP access to our forum from your server.

You guys responded by saying that you don't release database backups of forums hosted on your server. As I understand it, our admin even offered to pay to get access to the database of our own forum, and you still refused.

My question is, why? It's not a security risk, and it's not a loss for you guys except in terms of advertisements that you guys put on our forum. We understand that, and because we want you guys to know that the only reason we're requesting a forum backup is because we want more flexibility in terms of what we can do, and not because we think that Forumer is bad in any way, we're offering you payment in compensation.

I used to run several forums based off of IPB on my own, and I know that creating a backup is as simple as going to the ACP, clicking a tab, clicking another tab that says 'Backup' (or close to that), and requesting a backup - voila, you've got the zip/tar file, and you can do as you please. It certainly can't be because of a technical reason that you're not letting us have a copy of our forum.

All we want to do is to have a chance to continue where we left off on the forumer site on an updated and more flexible forum software and server. We've really appreciated the hosting and the work that you've done in keeping our forum up, and for that we're offering you payment.
We just don't want to have to start over in terms of posts, members, log in details, and everything that's left on our forum when we know that you can help us out.

After all, does it really hurt to lose one forum out of the hundreds of thousands you guys have on your server? Come on guys, have a heart. Who knows? We may end up coming back sometime.

Thanks in advance,
Tag

Dear Tagline,

I'm sorry but I can not grant you your database backup. Forumer will not release them at this current time. I apologize if it causes any problems but thats the way it goes.

I have the same thought as what you have Tag. I'm also running IPBs hosted by forumer and I only just want to have a back-up of one those. If I would be given a chance to have my jappinoy database backup, I will still put Forumer's link somewhere in my page to promote its great service. And I also promise that I will also continue supporting Forum Owners to the best of my knowledge.

Also IPB 1.3.x / Final is still vulnerable for exploits and I am afraid to loose everything in my forum. So please...

FEE to have this backup is nothing for me...just give us a chance.

Thank you too in advance.

i think he want a reason from Limez why we can't have a back-up datebase. because i'm guessing the Mods don't have the option to get a back-up.

i think paying a fee of 50-100 dollar by far fair enough. Make an agreement up. etc

it's not like i'm going to be leaving forumer... i'm a mod at Fmod i want to work my way up the ladder there.

i'm still going to be using my forum on forumer just as much as i am now.

i've already puchcased an IPB.Board so i'm going to be moving over there anyways. so you might as well make money off of me. and others.

but like i said above i'm STILL going to be using my forum it will be used for alot of major event that take place on my website etc.

i just don't see whats wrong with it. makes people happy because i know you guys have been asked by alot of people asking about it. and Forumer makes money.

i just don't see what the big probblem is personally
