Unhappy Advertisment banner with an annoying sound!

I am a forum administrator in malamas.4.forumer.com and I recently discovered that there is a new advertisment on the top of the page about a free prize that leads to this link:

Play free online games - Internet game box

The problem is that this advertisment every 5 seconds makes an annoying sound and some of our members have already complained about that.

I am sending this to ask if there is a possibility to stop that annoying sound.

Thanks in advance,

Sotrek,
malamas.4.forumer.com admin.

Hi,

As we do not maintain the ads this is not possible.

Thumbs down Re: Advertisment banner with an annoying sound!

Hi

I agree with this thread and would like to register my disapproval at this ad. I understand that you need ads to make the whole thing work but this advert is intrusive and irritating and it is bad enough for it to sound once when the page loads but every five seconds?? It has been driving members away from the board in their droves and that is not good for any of us. I know you say you have nothing to do with the ads but this does feel like a "cop out" to me. Of course you know the company responsible for the adverts (either directly or via the people who provide the advertising to you) and you could register our complaints and comments to them. I am sure I speak for many, many people when I say that I hope you do. Just to remind you that whilst up to now I have been relatively happy with the forum service you provide there are OTHER companies should this matter continue. If that advert and ones like it continue I shall DEFINITELY be leaving.

Best regards

Sefton

We too have had serious complaints especially about the annoying beep. The adverts are slow to load, the flashing images upset people who are prone to migraines and in severe casese could even trigger an epileptic fit.

When you say, Edwin, that you can't do anything about it, that is not true. You have a contract with the firm that provides the ads, they pay you for the ads and you can negotiate acceptable terms. When a contract is involved you always, always have the power to negotiate.

What would you do if ads suddenly appeared with gross sexual imagery? You'd take them down and contact the firm within microseconds. I'm not complaining about having adverts. We have adverts on our free television channels. But they are always subject to acceptable use and if people complain to the TV channel operator they stop them.

Please will you look at your contract and negotiate acceptable use?

No Relpy? I notice the ad is still happening.

Does anyone at forumer care to elaborate further on this matter? I notice in an other thread that you managed to have a word with the advertising company on behalf of a church forum that didn't want bikini clad girls on their adverts.

Looking forward to your response

Just to let you know that Edwin has no control over the ads. They are google banner ads.

Its not just that, also the flashing images too. I have seen some of these adverts on my other half's computer, and they are so distracting and annoying, and I feel for people who have this! In fact, one member had said his Mcafee detected spam on the ads!

I run a board for highly sensitive people and these flashing and beeping banner adds are very distracting and overwhelming to the members of my board. The Google ads that you had before where much more acceptable than what is currently running and we all hope that this problem can be changed soon. In the meantime, it's a terrible deterent to current members and the possibility of new members joining us.

I've only just started with a forum here myself. And I must admit I was horrified about this flashing card advert claiming a person is a winner. The flashing gives me a headache and it's irritating flashiing won't be very peaceful for future members. Surely an advert what irritates people so much can't possibly be succesful.

There is a way to do this, however, first you need to make sure that your forum has absolutely not objectionable content and that your forum is very well moderated. (This means there are NO adult links/content, piracy links/content, pharmacy links/content, see more TOS violation items etc )

If you are convinced that your forum is very clean, then you can reply to this thread and include your URL. We will review your forum and return "ads by google" to it.
You can request the Google ads to be put back on your forum here.
