Default New Post forum markers dont work

Ok, this is the problem I have. When someone on my board makes a new post or a new reply, it deems that post/reply "new" for only a certain amount of time it seems. During that time, the forum marker icon is 'lit' to indicate there is an unread post/reply in there. This SHOULD be lit until I myself have read that post/reply. However, over such-and-such amount of time, it simply goes 'unlit' and I never know that there is a new post/reply in that area.
I am an admin and I like to read everything that goes on on the board, so this is very important to me. The only way I can overcome this is by clicking the link that says 'todays active posts' at the bottom. But, people shouldnt have to do this! Thats what these forum markers should be for!

So, does anyone have any suggestions on how they get around this or maybe a solution? I would REALLLLLY appreciate any help on this. Thank you.

There is no solution to this for these boards. IPB 2+ currently has that, however as I'm sure you know we host IPB 1.3, the final free version. You just can't let your forum idle in a different tab/window, basically.

thank you for the reply. Do you happen to know what makes the forum marker become unlit? Is it after a certain amount of time? Or perhaps after just one person looks at that post, it goes unlit for everyone else? It really blows my mind and its really hard to get along with this.
Will forumer host ipb 2 soon maybe?

It's a script that does it so that once you've viewed a post, or logged in and ignored it, it gets marked as read.

As for upgrading to IPB 2, that will never happen. IPB 1.3 was the last free version of IPB - IPB 2 costs about $165 a pop.
