Create a VIP group and a Mask that this group will use.

Log-in to your AdminCP

1. To create group, go to Users & Groups::Manage User Groups then Set-up New Group

2. To create Mask, go to Forum Control::Permission Mask Then Create new for your newly Created Group.

... furthermore, when you create the forum, the last thing you will be given options for will be permission masks. Make sure the permission mask squares are only ticked for the groups you want to read/reply/start topics/upload in that forum. I normally double-check it by going into "manage forums" and click on Permissions. There you will get a table with which permission masks can see which forum.

If you want to make certain individuals in a particular Group to view forums that other members in that group, but for it not to be obvious (like I have a VIP forum on my board which only established members can see, for more personal threads and member photos), go into Find/Edit/Suspend user and bring up the member who's permissions you wish to change. Leave them in the same group (if that's what you want), and just change their override permission mask to the one you want them to use. That way they can see the forums that permission mask is allowed to see.
