| Member ![]() | Hello there, I have some categories in my forum that are hidden for visitors, it means that only registered users can see. I would like to show the front of that 'private' categories also to visitors, but in order they can enter or read the topics within them, guests should log in or register theirselves. Is it possible in IPB to do that? I've seen that PHPBB makes difference between View and Read in the Control Panel, but IPB permission options are only: Read, Reply, Start and Upload Thanks in advance. |

| Member | You could make all them topics private, so only members could see them by using usergroups. Or even easier than that click on the permissions and just untick the read option. so when guests come on they cannot see the topic. Last edited by RaNdOmPrOgRaMs; 03-13-2007 at 07:11 PM. |

| Member ![]() | Thanks for your answer, Random Programs. But the thing is that if I uncheck the read field to some group, for example for guests, they can't see the category, I want that guests see that the category exists, I mean they can see the 'front', but if they want to read the topics inside that category, they should log in as a registered members. In other words and in an example, I want that a guest realizes that we have a downloads category, but he/she could only explore it when he/she becomes a member. I'm starting to think that's not possible in IPB. |

Click Complete Edit at the end. (This is to force guests to log in) Go to ACP -> HTML Templates -> Manage HTML -> Global HTML elements -> Error Page, find and change {ibf.lang.exp_text} into your word (e.g. The board administrator requires all members to log in) Good luck. | |

| Elite Forumer ![]() | S3V3N If you want the guests to see the categories and forums but not be able to read the topics posted by members this is what you have to do: You have to edit their group permissions: Go to Admin CP -> Users & groups -> Manage user groups -> by the guests click on Edit Group -> in the Global Permissions section answer the question Can view board?.... Yes and Can view other members topics?... NO, it's also wise to set the Can view member profiles and the member list? to NO. Set the forum permissions that the guests can read the forums but not post in them or start topics... you know where to do that right? ![]() Hope it helps. Good luck. ![]() Please note that this way the guests won't be able to read any posts from members........ Last edited by Wild Cat; 08-15-2007 at 08:42 PM. |
