Can I make a Forum PRIVATE

I would like to start a forum that is Private, to be seen only by registered users - is this possible?

You can go to AdminCP-> Security & Privacy -> Then change Disable New Registration to yes. If you want stranger to log in before going to the forum, you can go to the same thing (AdminCP-> Security & Privacy) then change "Force guests to log in before allowing access to the board?" to yes

...the route [the path] becomes a little clearer.

You can have your forum "public" as to existence, making the guests register before they can "see" the forum contents. Meaning, each forum would be flagged "reg" within the appropriate places within the expanded choice-bloc [forum permissions for each separate forum you have on your board].

You can completely hide your forum from all view...via not publicizing it.
And marking each forum within your board ... as I posted above.

Also, outside of the welcome forum [which should be public], you can flag "invite" within forum permissions...I will stop here to let you tell me what you envision.

Well or.. yu can make the thing only visible for admins and who ever else in the forum control.

the adminCP is the admin board!!

if you are on IPB - click on AdminCP next to your username at the top...
if you are on phpBB - click on "Go to administration panel" which will be at the bottom of the page, below the "key" of contents

I have a similar question. How do I change the settings that doesn't allow anyone to see the topics and posts in my forum. I am at the Admin board of my phpBB and can't find Security & Privacy.

I am reading the issue and i have the same problem.
I want to set a forum to only registered users. Problem is that i am reading the "fsupport" and the settings mentioned there will give a blank page to the registered users.

I am setting for each individual thread the level of permission:
I can choose from the following:
Public
Registered
Registered [Hidden]
Private
Private [Hidden]
Moderators
Moderators [Hidden]

After that i go to the "User Admin" and allow Permissions to a specific user.
I can only get the Moderator status to change and i get nothing in the Simple Permissions.

What settings would be necessary just to create a forum for registered users?
