A very easy to see yet irritating problem. When I (or a user) make a post (either new thread or a reply to another thread) and then return to the main page, the thread stays marked unread. Trust me, when I make a new post I have read it

To solve this I have to go back in and mark the forum as read or enter the thread again that I just posted in.

I have searched around but I cannot find the solution, how do I fix this?

Im not sure that this is a problem as such. Does it really matter? Thats the way IPB is set it and it cant be changed.

Yes it matters because we have to go back and mark things read all the time, it is annoying.

It is most likely a cache problem on your end - try clearing everything

It is unlikely for that to happen to me and other users as well though... but I will tell them to do that, however, if after clearing cookies, history, cache, temp and whatnot the problem is still there I'll post back

Edit: Cleared everything there was to clear, even cleared my passwords and everything else I could find. Problem is NOT solved.

it happened to me as well.......so i left IPB for good

I don't want to abandon IPB for phpBB, since the latter has an even more annoying thing than this one. Besides, I like IPB

Anyone else have any ideas?

you dont want to make them read by clickin the mark read button because other users can then see if there is new posts or not. It happens to me and i dont really worrk about it. After a few days, its back to normal.

Well, i don't think that is a big issue too. None of my members complains about this problem.

i think its just the nature of IPB 1.3

Well.. it isn't something that is auto fixed, it has been like this since I started the forum about a week ago, all cookies and the bunch cleared and no change.

YOU may think it isn't a big issue, but remember that opinions CAN differ!

wr3698er73678: are you saying that me pressing that mark read thing is marking a topic read for ANOTHER user? O_O That is the weirdest thing ever, if so.

So.. it is IPB1.3 OR maybe the browsers that are responsible? Some users are running on Linux here, but use regular old browsers like Mozilla and Opera, so I doubt that could be it though.

So basically, what it boils down to is that it cannot be solved, correct?

Yes cannot be solved. Its the nature of IPB and thats how its gonna stay. And yes, for my forum by pressing mark all posts read, it makes them read for all users.
