my members are saying that they get an error message when trying to upload personal photos of themselves,whats the prob?

Unfortunately, there some problem with uploading personal picture and avatar. Please be patients with the Admin(s) here, as they will look into the issues and fix it for us all.

Did you check if their photos are within the uploading file size limit? If they exceed the limit you set in the control panel, the pix will not be uploaded.
