Hi all,
I'm keeping fairly up to date with the forum posts here and have experienced much the same problems as everyone else. What i want to do how ever is add my 2 cents to the pot and suggest a few things that might help.
Ok firstly I am a web designer and have been for about 6 years so I know how to feel my way around a product without doing too much damage. No trick here just a simple mantra i follow.... read all the help you can before you randomly change things! This includes the forums, if you haven't noticed the Things you shouldn't do posts read them, it helps no end. I even went as far as downloading the free version of the forum from Invision as it comes with a manual, the same one available in your Admin CP might i add, follow the links in the top box of the left frame.
The next thing to note and possibly the most important one is you get what you pay for. In other words we are using a free product that offers little in the way of adds, we paid nothing! Don't expect the first class technical support package when you didn't even pay for the package in the first place. If you want technical support spend the $200 and go buy yourself your own forum. On the flip side of this arguement, FreeIB guys, it's a bit much offering a service and not providing a service that wrks properly.
Ok customisation. Once again this comes down to reading up on the subject before you start. I found what i needed in this very forum and it pointed me to a forum dedicated to skinning forums. So i went there and read some more and at the end of it I worked out that by creating a new style sheet borrowed from the many available ones out there I could have my own individual site.
To sum this all up yes there are problems with this service and it does seem that someone knows how to fix them. So FreeIB guys, give Ian the access he needs and your service will get better.
Customers, you paid nothing so don't expect too much. If you don't know what you are changing, dont change it!
And finally if you want help, stop starting arguements and ask some of the more established users for a little advice, those users normally reside on the InVision forums and there's a link to those on every page of your own forums, right at the bottom.
Ok I'll get off my soap box now, thanks for listening
Squeaky ^_^
