I think it looks bad, I like to keep things more simple plus this is nothing but simple HTML.

You mean each subforum, right, not each board?

It can be cool if you manage to find images that are small AND fits the purpose of the forum - tak a look at http://mazeguy.net for great icons (remember you can not direct link from him!). RPG icons could be used too, but I wouldn't know where to get them.
