Lightbulb This decade, in review. 2000 - 2009.

What do you think of this decade so far? For me, it hasn't been the greatest. Highlights included leaving high school, my first job, going to college, joining a pool & snooker club, meeting my key worker and getting an Xbox 360.

I think, this decade has also been very sad, for celebrity deaths, and just the general social aspects of it. There's not enough jobs going, and there hasn't been anything that awe inspiring on the Internet in quite a while.

What do you think of the decade? I'd like to hear about it!

From a computer standpoint there hasn't been much innovation in OSs, but the hardware has improved and Web 2.0 websites have made the internet much more useful. Also, the memristor has been invented, which will have a great influence on the development of computers down the road.

From my personal standpoint the 2000 decade has been the time when I got into computers, decided what I want to do with my life, and I've working towards my goals. To me, I think there's nothing more important than that for an individual whether it be your occupational future, your future in relationships and how you are as a person, or your religion.

From a national standpoint (USA) it kind of sucked. We had September 11, the war in Afghanistan (which isn't going to end anytime soon, maybe not for another decade or two), Iraq, etc. We also had some of the global problems such as the economy, the stuff going on in Iran and North Korea, etc.

I'm really looking forward to 2010-2019. I think that technology will continue to advance and that I will make quite a bit of progress in my life through college and my first job(s).

Eh... ok. I guess this depends on what you consider innovation. Sure Windows might be dead in the water, & barely holding a pulse (other than pissing everyone off with forcing Vista down our throats through Firmware bottlenecks) but Linux & Mac OSX were almost next to unheard of at the turn of the century, & look at them now. You can ask just about anyone & they've at the very least, heard of them, or maybe even used them. In 1999 Linux was barely making headway on USB support, & now it's like clockwork. Plus they've also integrated NTFS write capabilities, opening all sorts of windows of opportunity for anti-virus manufactures to make software that performs outside of the scope of the OS, where the virus can no longer protect itself (such as Panda).

PIII to 8 core CPUs is a bit more than an improvement.

Yes, but I'm talking about OSs as a whole, not just specific brands. The others have come up to a standard at least competitive with Windows, if not equaling or surpassing it (I'm not debating that subject, it's preference :P). But I don't think many exceptionally great ideas for OSs were brought to the table after XP.

That is what I meant. Big, substantial improvements there.

no2pencil, you damn mythical creature. I hate trolls.

Linux is the shit thought. I'm using it right now, i just wish it had itunes because my ipod sucks now that i've switched. I use my psp for music now.

This decade was good. I mean i got an Xbox 360 and KFC has baked chicken now.

Those 2 things make this decade great.

You all know about the Darwin Awards -- It's an annual honor given to the person who did the gene pool the biggest service by killing themselves in the most extraordinarily stupid way. Last year's winner was the fellow who was killed by a Coke machine which toppled over on top of him while he was attempting to tip a free soda out of it.
