Pet owners dismayed at China's one-dog law

Quote:
The residents of Guangzhou, one of China's most affluent cities, are already used to sticking to the country's strict one-child rule, but a new regulation is about to force many dog owners to make an impossible decision.

From next month, new regulations will come into action meaning households will be allowed only one dog, meaning anybody with two or more pooches will be allowed to keep only their favourite.
Seriously......

I even wonder how do they enforce the one child rule if some one gives birth to twins....

My understanding is that they have such strict laws on children (& I suppose pets) due to the fact that they are populated by billions of citizens in such a small country.

the pet law is new, it will only come in effect from the 1st of next month... have you read the article?

Also, the pet rule, its ok to make a rule, dogs don't live long, so it should not apply to the existing pets but it does....... how do you chose which pet you keep?

How do you chose which kid to keep? and what do you do with the other(s)? (we can only suspect that most of them will be destroyed...)

how do you enforce the law about 1 child? what if there are twins or triplets? (what do you do with the other(s)?

About the one child law. Family's that have more then one child have to pay more taxes then if they have one child so most family can't pay the tax so they can only have one child.

I'm guessing there is some fine print about the one dog law saying you can have more then one dog but there are taxes or something like that.

I'm sure there is judging by the attitude of most Chinese people I know

But I agree, I think the rule in its self is fine but they should allow people who already have two or more dogs to keep them until they die.

What you describe is authoritarianism and not communism. Communism is an economical ideology and has nothing to do with social liberty.

^^well the size of the country is not sufficient for the amount of people living there so it is "small" ...

I guess it depends on how you define "needed". I have nothing against them though. I wonder what kind of outcry this will cause in china. It would have been fascinating if they introduced the one child policy in the same way, you have to choose one child and kill the others. Maybe then the government could be overthrown and reinstated in a more liberal way.

Statistics does show that china, in both health and wealth, gained a lot from the one child policy; though the statistics does not take the individuals emotions into consideration.
