Yeah, it seems. Florida has very strict laws against DUI and we don't play around.

First offense: No more than 6 months in jail, fine of no more than $500, 1 year of probation DUI school, up to 50 hours of community service , car impounded for 10 days, and license suspended for at least 180 days - 1 year.

Second offense (Within 5 years): Up to 9 months in prison (Min. of 10 days), fine between 500 and $2,000, 1 year probation, DUI school, 50 hours of community service, ALL of the subject's vehicles impounded for no less than 30 days, and license suspended for not less than 5 years.

Third Offense (within 10 years): Prison for 30 days to 1 year, fine between 1 rand and 5 grand, probation for 1 year, DUI school, community service, all cars impounded for 90 days, ignition lock devices will be placed on your subjects car for at least 2 years, and license suspended for no less than 10 years.


DUI is very serious, and it seems to me that the judges throw the book at the suspects only for DUI. I have to go to traffic court when I write out citations, and it will piss me off that the judge will throw out most of the tickets and dismiss the case, even when the person was indeed speeding!!

It's like, jee, thanks... I wasted all this time writing the damn ticket, almost got ran over by 8 semi trucks on the interstate, spent 3 hours doing the paperwork, only to see that some liberal judge throw out all this work for nothing.... Another thing I don't get is that the State of Florida needs the money too, and almost ALL the money from traffic tickets and fines goes to the State (the citing department only gets 11 bucks from it). So, they are throwing away money THEY could use!

Oh well, it's better to write out warnings and send the driver on their way anyways.
