Anyone here have strong religious convictions? If so, what keeps you believing in what you believe? Has there been any situations or events that have tested your belief? Do you believe in the theory of evolution, or do you believe that we were all brought here by a more powerful being? Could you disprove the theory of evolution? Do you think religion gives you a better understanding of life?

For those that are not strongly religious, but are associated with a religion; are you with the religion because of your parents/family? Would you have picked another path if you were not born into the religion, or do you respect and agree with it? Do you sometimes think that some of your beliefs clash with what your church/religion believes in? Do you think your religion sometimes clashes with your personal life (e.g. friends, dating, curfew etc.)?

Everyone else; those who do not have a religion. Do you believe that you have more freedom without the restrictions that sometimes comes with a religion? Would you ever take up a religion? Why or why not? Do you think religion is made so to control over a person's life, rather than give meaning to it? What are your personal views on religion overall?

Everything is up for discussion, but let us all be nice about it.

Well, for starters, my family is Christian, salvation army to be exact. However, ever since my childhood, I have been heavily influenced by the internet and everyone on it. Over time I started viewing the world differently, mostly due to people's opinions over chat rooms and whatnot. To make a long story short, I decided that I'd believe what I wanted to believe, and not be held back by something that we can't prove, yet at least.

I do believe in evolution, simply because it is perfectly logical, and we have more proof of evolution than we have of any sort of God.

I'm perfectly fine with my chosen path, and it's going to take something HUGE to change it.

And one more thing, I respect everyone else's values and beliefs, so please don't attack mine! If you want to get into a debate about my opinion, take it to PM or something.

I am a Hindu... I believe in the almighty. This is not because I need an explanation for things around me, but because God is in everything around me. He is far greater than petty forums, technology, science, objects & stuff....

There is really no reason to 'believe in' evolution. Evolution is a scientific fact and one of the most fundamental scientific data the world has ever seen.

Evolution has a massive amount of evidence in its favor and it explains let's say 99 percent of what we knows about life. The remaining one percent remains to be discovered. Religion explains precisely zero.

One of the things that is wrong with religion is that it teaches us to be satisfied with answers which are not really answers at all. Why did the apple fall from the tree? Because God did it. Why is the sky blue? Because God did it. See what I mean?

The time has come for people of reason to say: enough is enough. Religious faith discourages independent thought, it's divisive, and it's dangerous. Sure, quiet congregations is nice and trains of people in a group, but that is where they start on that slippery slope ultimately culminating in men with rucksacks on the tube or hijacking planes, killing women for being raped, misinformation to children in school and so on.

In the words of the Nobel Prize winner Stephen Weinerg: 'Without religion you have good people doing good things, and evil people doing evil things. But for good people to do evil things, it takes religion.
