Default The Western Education System
Well this is not just west, but also Australia & other countries.

Actually, I am kind of pissed of with our own education system. Many acknowledge it as very good, it maybe good. But I've a kind of a feeling that it is just not the thing for me. I'll turn 16 this August & have entered Class 11th last month.

So, I wanted to know if you guys too have to cram book loads. What kind of education system do you have. Does it include a realistic approach (I mean more stress on practical life & less on theory). If yes, then are there any scholarships available for foreign students & where can I apply for one.

Hey Manell, you are in CBSE right?
I am in ICSE and we do not have much books, plus CBSE is planning to decrease the number of textbooks(cae in TOI)...

We've already got the books for the sessions 2006-2007. The Physics & Chemistry Reference Textbooks are more than 1200 pages each.

Just wait until you get to college
All the books over here in college average 1000 pages...give or take. Not only the number of pages is big....the cost of books is also big . On buying an average of 5 books, you have to pay $500 USD

well in TOI it said that CBSE was planning to drop some 5 or 6 textbooks this year...

I'm happy with my education at High School here in the UK as of course it's free, and only really required to buy things like pencils pens etc basic equipment. At the end of the day all school will offer you what you need to know to pass exams and things, then it's down to you the individual to work.

in my school ( Voc school) we dont need to carry the books everywhere only in classes and we carry only the important stuff like paper and a pen

Education here is well, stupid. The teachers are organized in uniones and they are very stupid about it. However we get free education through age 18. There are also many ways to get less expensive college for those that do well in the last few years of free education. It's alright but some times boring.
