I have the same problem on my forum: http://gimnazijafg.1.forumer.com/ . I also have problems with e-mail verification (so I set Admin verification of new members).
After changing my e-mail address, e-mail with validiation never came and I can't access my CP.
Please, help me.

Would the fact I have a dotcom name involved be effecting it at all? Or indeed, the fact I have one those 'redirect traffic to the ipb page as the homepage' scripts involved?

My index.php page redirects traffic to my ipb page, and in so much as it's not pointing at blahblahblah.5.forumer.com/index.php? - Perhaps this is the problem??
