More Customization - FTP for our board

Considering that every board maker has to use a different username, we should get to have ftp access of our board so we can add real invision mods... Forumer would become way more popular if we could do that, considering almost every person wants access to ftp so they can get the best mods!

never happen! its to risky, Think of all them 100's of threads saying "I deleted the conf_global.php file and forum not working"

couldnt they set conf_global.php a shared file where it cant be deleted cause of a sharing violation through the ftp and forumer?

or make it so there is a backup of it in case we delete it, we can go download it from the forumer website somewhere and put it back on there?

or are conf_global.php files set for a forum specifically?


they would have the same problem for real invision power boards, so cant forumer use their fmods board to find out about accidentally deleting it? (not reccomending they delete it to find out, maybe use ipb customer service...)

All the forumer boards uses the same set of core files. Mod one, then all change.

then you would have the servers going down as if it was going out of fashion

No, all Forumer admins does not need to have different user names. Simply change your username in the ACP.

FTP is a security risk as you can use it to attack the server and other things that we should not get into here.

Also FTP could not ever be given to forum admins. The simple reason is that the script being used to run forums uses a single installation of phpbb. A configuration file then connects your subdomain with the sql data for your forum when the page loads. So if 1 admin had access to ftp they could bring down everyones forum just by deleting a single file. It's more of a technical problem then a security risk.

hmm... well is there any way that we can install actual mods instead of through html, such as using the sql or something?

it would be cool to be able to use real mods instead of messing with html.

Installing "real mods" doesn't need FTP - there are a bunch of MODIFICATIONS over at www.fmods.com

I'm not to sure about that, but you can always check Forumer's official modification site. www.fmods.com
