Default Modding Your Forum

Hey Fellas !!!

I got a Suggestion for you all. While U r about to apply any mod to your forum, save the initial settings from forum in at least a text file in your computer so that If U mess up, then U can recopy the original code & thus restore your forum. Thus U'll save precious time of Support Team members who are more busy than us in keeping our Forums Live.

I hope that could help

All of the HTML Templates and skin can be downloaded via the ACP. Also you can register a new forum and just copy/paste if worst thing come to worst.

They are not text documents but HTML files. Why would you want to Change it so they download as text documents?

Do you understand anything about HTML?

I think it is a brillinat suggestion - and will save time, bandwidth, server space etc.

Basically what he is saying is that before you go to change the codes - that you copy and paste the orginal code into a text document (notepad) and save it - and then if you have trouble you can start afresh!

Basicly, it involves less code if I understand correctly. It is a half decent idea as it will save server lag. However, time to implement it is the next big loop to jump.

Sincerly,Ryan 9500 Fbucks donated to worty causes so far. More Coming! PM ME TO LINK EXCHANGE!!!!

.. why not just have a feature that will let you RESTORE your HTML templates on a per-row basis?

IPB 2.1 lets you.

I missunderstood the suggestion. If the HTML download would be replaced by .txt instead it would mean that you couldn't upload and replace your templates with out modifying the core-php files.

Now that I understand what the idea is, I agree that it is a good one

Question Re: Modding Your Forum

I'm not sure if I should have started a new topic - but I thought iof this after reading this thread:

(please be patient)

When you change the display settings in winXP, a dialog opens with a countdown timer asking if you want to keep the settings. If no response is given - it automatically reverts to the previous settings (in case you can't see anything on your screen as a result of the changes).

This would be a great idea for IPB too!

I would like an option that I could switch on or off - that (when on) sends me an email after I change any CSS or HTML settings asking if I would like to keep them. From that email I would be able to click a link to accept the changes and a link to discard the changes. If I did not respond to the mail within a time limit (say 1 hour) - the board would automatically revert to the state it was in before the changes.

This would probably take some serious coding - but I think it would be worth it. I have already 'lost' a board to mistakes made when modding - and ahving closed the admin CP I found I could no longer access the board at all.

What does everyone else think?

Good idea.. but mine is better, lol...

I have a test forum where I test mods.. If everything goes well, I just copy paste the code from the test forum to my original one..
