Disable it and you won't have to worry about it.

Gee, are you just this paranoid and power hungry online or does it carry over IRL too?

Do you bug the phones on your significant other, too? Or just hire a private eye to watch him/her to make sure they aren't plotting an affair? Do you open mail that isn't addressed to you because it might contain a plot against you? (That's a FEDERAL Offense, btw...:-))

Just disable the private messaging system and you won't have to worry if the users are plotting against you.

If you get any offensive PM's just take a screenshot and send it to a mod or Limez, its that simple.

I disagree, you should be able to. When I was hosting my own phpBB forums when I had my own site I would get complaints about spam and such in pms and I would go in and see what was said, because without knowing who said what inside the pm how can I punish anyone?

Yes, people do fake abuse reports to get other people banned. Yes, people do spam through pms. How can I know what is going on without looking into it myself? It is not an invasion of privacy, they know when they used the forums that all information is logged, including their IP address and other information. It is personal messages, not private messages.

I don't understand why is this being made an issue, come on whats the big deal if the administrator can read the pms? keep ur private discussion on ur messenger rather than dragging it into a forum's pm box, that way even if you exchange email addresses through pms it won't be a problem, later no1 is gonna read ur messages as u will be using messenger

I think it may be useful sometimes (when someone is abusing a person through PM and you want to persuade in it, as described above), but most of the time admins will view PMs just because of curiosity. But if people really want to have PRIVATE conversation, they'll do it by e-mail.

And if you'll start viewing your users' PMs, I think you would never stop... It can really become paranoia

Invasion of privacy. Anyone that wants to read someone elses private messages has a hidden agenda.

If there are problems, you should just request the person give you their password and view through their log in. That way they can change the password later when the problem is resolved.
