| Elite Forumer ![]() | Introduction I have seen that in this section the most commonly asked question is how to set the domain up. In order to not confuse anyone all screenshots are from Windows XP Professional SP2 using Mozilla Firefox, however there is no changes on whatever operating system you use. This post will cover:
Buying a domain The very first step is to buy a domain. You can buy a domain for as little as £2/$5 from places like:
Domain Explorer. GoDaddy and Namealerts will allow you to buy in USD. 123-Reg and Ukreg will allow you to buy in £. Ultima Development Laboratories has also sold a few domains to Forumer users allow fbucks as payments.** Setting up DNS Very often you get free DNS when you buy your domain, but there is a chance that you never did a DNS service. If this happened to you or you have no clue what to do, then just follow the section that says about Free DNS. Ultima Development Laboratories' DNS First log into your control panel that can be located at http://domains.ultimalabs.co.uk and you should get a screen that look like this Image here: http://tools.ultimalabs.co.uk/images/files/2/step2.JPG Next click edit on the section that is called "Host Records". Look at above image to see where the edit button is located. Next fill in the details that is needed that can be located in your Forum's Admin CP. Image on set up at be found here: http://tools.ultimalabs.co.uk/images/files/2/step3.JPG Click save and then go to your Admin CP and fill out the fiorm that can be located under "fdomains". Free DNS (A free DNS service) Free DNS is only to be used if you never got any DNS service when you got your domain. If you ordered from DomainExplorer or GoDaddy, you can skip this. The first step is to sign up. Link here http://freedns.afraid.org/signup/. Fill in all the needed details. Once you have signed up, change your domain nameservers to:
After you have done that, click subdomains and then look for the host record that is called "yourdomain.com". Image: http://tools.ultimalabs.co.uk/images/files/2/step5.JPG Once you have clicked it, change the "A-Record" to point to the IP address that is located in your Admin CP. Image: http://tools.ultimalabs.co.uk/images/files/2/step6.JPG Now fill out the details in your Admin CP and then make sure to select it. List Of IPs Here's the list of IP addresses. If you know your server number (the number in your forum's current URL), you can just find your IP below. If you're not sure, log into your Admin Control Pannel, and click on fDomains. It will be listed there.

| VIP Team | Setting up your DomainExplorer domain For those that bought domains from DomainExplorer, here is a guide for setting it up with your forum. Assuming that you can figure out how to buy a domain through DomainExplorer, your first step would be to change it's 'A' record. To do so, log into your account. Click on the link where it tells you how many domains you have in your account. Click on the domain you would like to change. Scroll down to the second box where it says 'DNS Settings' at the top. Click 'Configure'. You should now be presented with a chart of input boxes (if you're not, start over). There are three prefilled 'hostname' fields: "www", "@ (none)" and "* (other)". Beside each of these is a drop down box. For each of them, change the option in the drop down box to "A (Address)". Now copy-paste your server's IP into the far right field, for all three rows. Scroll down to the bottom of the page and click "Save Changes". Wait at least 24 hours without doing anything with your domain. Then log into your Admin Control Pannel and select fDomains. Enter your new domain in the submission field under Step 2 and click "Add Domain". You should now see your domain within a small table. Click the link "Not Selected", and that's it! Your domain should now be working fine with your forum. If you need any help, feel free to create a support topic within this forum. Setting up your 1and1 domain Just follow these instructions, located in their FAQ section. Thanks Snat for pointing this out. Last edited by Winnopeg; 04-24-2007 at 03:54 PM. |
