Why should I choose Forumer as my forum host?
This is a question that some of you have asked yourself.
Throughout the years, while most of our users have loyally stayed with Forumer
, there has been some users who decided to signup with another company.
When Forumer was established, a very long 4 years ago, there were only a handful of forum hosts on the internet. However, it is the nature of most popular sites to inspire copy cats. Today there are many-many small poor quality hosts. (Most of these smaller hosts regularly and blatantly rip off content from Forumer, and thankfully, our fSupport manager - Kurisu - always follows up with these and sends them pre-legal warnings to remove copied content from their sites)
Most of these lousy forum hosts are ran quite unprofessionally, on low budgets, majority are on shared hosting accounts (lol). They do not have a proper support forum; some don't even have a contact us form.
So, how do they go about attracting naive webmasters?
First, they make promises they cannot keep. If you do not invest considerable funds into the hardware and network of your server(s), you are bound to go down. Same goes for software. Many of these copy-cat hosts use old insecure software with which is still full of bugs and vulnerabilities. Not a week goes by without me receiving a few emails from people asking to somehow transfer their forum into Forumer, because their chosen host is falling apart and going down. For the last 4 years Forumer has had coders and technicians working on our software, we are continually fixing bugs and correcting things all the time.
Another popular trick is to offer "no-ads" on your forum; and I have to confess, in the first 12 months of Forumer we too offered "no-ads" because our generous investor agreed to pay all our costs. For the next 3 years we have only added one advertisement space to forums (which was a compromise between making less revenue, but providing you a pleasant enough forum to build your community); all while other hosts have added (or will add) 2-4 ads cluttering up your forums.
So, I say to people who are lured by the "no-ads" offers, please understand that running a forum host costs thousands of dollars in server costs, and you can only offer this as a promotion, but eventually you will see ads and charges, because there has to be a revenue model in place for a company to stay alive.
Finally, because I am the founder of Forumer, naturally I am going to recommend that you use Forumer and that you tell your own friends to only use Forumer. But that is all I can do - make a recommendation. Nevertheless, you must make your own decisions, please use your diligence and I hope that you will make the right decision. It is your community, build it so it stays strong and lasts forever!
Happy Foruming in 2008!
Best of Luck,
Limez
